Way Kambas National Park - Lampung


History of Way Kambas National Park is one of two conservation areas in the form of a national park in Lampung province in addition to Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP). In 1978 Wildlife Way Kambas converted into Conservation Areas (KPA) by the Minister of Agriculture with the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 429 / Kpts- 7/1978 dated July 10, 1978 and managed by the Nature Conservation Area Sub Centres (SBKPA). Nature Conservation Area was changed to the Natural Resources Conservation Areas (KSDA) which is managed by a wide SBKSDA with 130,000 ha. In 1985 the Minister of Forestry Decree No. 177 / Kpts-II / 1985 dated 12 October 1985. On 1 April 1989 to coincide with the National Conservation Week in Kaliurang, Yogyakarta, was declared as the Way Kambas National Park area by the Minister of Forestry No. 444 / Menhut-II / 1989 dated April 1, 1989 with the vast 130,000 ha. Then in 1991 on the basis of the Decree of the Minister of Forestry number 144 / Kpts / II / 1991 dated March 13, 1991 declared the Way Kambas National Park, where management by Sub Natural Resources Conservation Center Way Kambas are directly responsible to the Institute of Natural Resources conservation II Tanjung Karang. By the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 185 / Kpts-II / 1997 dated 13 March 1997 where the Sub Center of Natural Resources conservation Way Kambas expressed as Hall Way Kambas National Park.
Reason enactment of the area as a nature conservation area, is to protect the region is rich in a variety of wildlife, including the tapir (Tapirus indicus), the Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus), six species of primates, sambar deer (Cervus unicolor), deer (Muntiacus muntjak), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris), bears. Sumatran rhino had not yet discovered that not one of the considerations that are used as the basis for its adoption.
However, after the enactment of a wildlife reserve area for nearly twenty years, especially in the period 1968 - 1974, this region is quite severe habitat loss, that is, when the area was opened to forest concessions, the region and all its contents, including animals, many experienced damage.
Of these species, until now its existence is still well preserved, among others, known as the Big Five Mammals are tapir (Tapirus indicus), the Sumatran elephant (Elephant maximus sumatranus), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris), Sumatran rhinoceros (Diserohinus sumatranus) and bear (Helarctos malayanus)
